Who the Hell Wants to Get Married??

Video Sundaaay!

So this is a clip from last week's episode of House of Glam. It was my first time watching the show but from what I saw it actually seems to be worth watching. But anyway, something about this clip disturbed me.

Here you have this successful business woman, Brandi, who has two kids by and lives with her boyfriend of seven years... *crickets*. Already there is something wrong with that picture but take a look at this clip which features a conversation that occured during a dinner party being held at Brandi's home.

Am I the only one who sees something wrong and just disrespectful about this whole conversation? I'm not even going to delve into the fact that Brandi is only fooling herself if she thinks anyone else believes that she's okay with not being married to this man. There were just so many things that bothered me here: the friend having the audacity to bring up the situation at a dinner party, Brandi's boo being referred to as a king by his friends because he has been allowed to live the married life but isn't married, her boo telling his friends he doesn't want to get married. Too much.

But anyway, watch and discuss folks.

  1. I only have a few words... as long as you allow a man to do something to you, he will continue to do it. I think we as women, sometimes don't want to say things to make the man upset or to end up alone cause he won't want the same thing. But at the end of the day, who ends up happy? Not the woman. We have to start ensuring our own happiness. If one man doesn't want what we want...there is another one out there who does. (so that was more than a few words...lol)

  2. Lol Cosign all the way!! The truth is, I couldn't even be mad at Charles, the bf, because Brandi obviously has allowed all of this to continue to happen.

7 years and two kids though??I don't traditionally believe in ultimatums but she she needs to put an end to this foolishness.

That whole conversation was disrespectful and to happen at a dinner party in front of all their guests where he basically tells her nothing will happen unless he wants it too?! WTF?! They're still "getting to know each other"?! Wasn't that supposed to happen before the raw sex?! I can't.

In addition to agreeing with Gina, I'd like to point out that black people have become FAR too comfortable with allowing children to come before marriage--now, I don't know these people on "House of Glam" so I can't say this pertains to them, but I have definitely heard women (AND men) in their early/mid 20s say "yeah, it's about time for me to have some kids", but there's never any discussion of marriage & building a family. I neither believe that having children with someone is a reason to marry them nor do I believe that being together for a certain amount of time should automatically lead to marriage, but if 1 person in the relationship wants something, the other clearly does not---then they need to get real & keep it moving. It's that old adage-when a man wants you, nothing will keep him away.
